Proper storage harsh chemicals

7 Safest Ways to Store Harsh Chemical Cleaners

The use of harsh or industrial cleaners in the workplace or at home can help get the job done faster, true, but it also means exposing yourself to harmful gases and liquids that can be dangerous to your health. Unfortunately, many of us forget that the cleaners that we use at home still pose a threat to our health. This is why we need to learn how to store them safely.

Storing Methods to Consider

First things first, you need to familiarize yourself with the cleaning agents that you are using. Please read the label as much as possible so you will know how to store them properly. Aside from that, you can also follow these storing methods.

  • Store in a Cool and Dry Place.

Certain chemical cleaners do not do well when exposed to high temperatures or high levels of humidity.

  • Choose Well Ventilated Areas.

Look for a location that is well ventilated but away from your home or your company’s HVAC system. This way, if the cleaning products have a leak, the fumes will not be dispersed in other parts of your house or business.

  • Store in a Padlocked Room or Closet.

Parents who have children at home should store their cleaning supplies away from their little ones. This is to avoid these products from being found and ingested too. If you do not have any well-ventilated space in your home, the best approach is to put your chemical supplies in a locked closet. This way, your children will not get access to them when you are not around.

  • Trolleys.

Leaving your cleaning supplies stored haphazardly in your closet is a recipe for disaster. This can cause other cleaning agents to tip over and spill or be mixed with other chemical cleaners that can cause a reaction. It is a good idea to keep things organized, and one way to do this is to have a cleaning trolley. This way, you will have all your cleaning products in one area and bring them with you when cleaning starts.

  • Use Transparent Boxes.

Since we are talking about organizing your cleaning supplies, you can group them according to function. For example, you put all the sponges and scrubs in one box, then bleach in another. Watch out for cleaning products that should not be stored together. Use transparent boxes so you can easily see them.

  • Store in Your Garage.

There is a good reason why storing your chemical supplies in the garage is a good idea, and one of them is to keep these toxic substances from permeating your home. Since the garage is a separate area, it will not affect the entire household if there is any leak. Additionally, it will be easier to store them out of your children’s reach.

  • Under your Sink.

The area under your sink is also an excellent place to store your cleaning supplies because it is usually dry and cool. However, make sure that you check these products from time to time to ensure that they are still in good condition.

Although harsh chemical cleaners can get the job done in getting rid of buildup and whatnot, they must be stored properly. Even those products that you bought from your chemical supplier in the Philippines must be kept in the proper storage area to ensure their efficacy when used.
