How to Clean your Desk and Computer: Here’s How To Do It Right

Your office desk at home or in your workplace can be a hotbed for germs. You might not realize this, but the amount of bacteria present on your desk is almost the same, if not more, than what you will find in your bathroom. The problem is that we barely remember when the last time we cleaned our desk and computer was.

This can lead to being exposed to other health problems, especially when we eat at our desks. To avoid this, we need to practice regular cleaning on our desks and even our devices. Want to know how? Read on.

Tips on How to Clean Your Desk and Accessories

Cleaning your workspace is simple. Aside from having the right cleaning tools, you also need to know the proper steps to take. For cleaning your desk, you will need to do the following:

  • Remove your coffee cup and wash it with hot water and soap. You can also run it in your dishwasher when you get home.
  • Invest in disinfectant wipes to wipe down any office supplies that you use, such as staplers, scissors, pens, and whatnot.
  • Wash desk accessories that are dirty and dusty as needed.

After cleaning all the items on top of your desk, you need to focus on the desk itself. Here’s how to disinfect it.

  • Remove all the items on your table.
  • Use your disinfectant wipes to wipe the entire surface of your desk.
  • Allow the cleaning solution to dry before putting back all of your desk items.

Disinfecting Your Computer

Aside from your desk, you also need to pay attention to your computer too. Many people tend to forget that their monitor, mouse, and keyboard can be a home for germs and other bacteria. Ask yourself when was the last time you gave your computer a good cleaning? Here’s how you can do it.

  • Unplug your device first to avoid getting electrocuted.
  • Wipe down your keyboard and shake it upside down to dislodge any crumbs, dirt, and debris from it.
  • Use compressed air to spray between the keys.
  • Wipe it with a disinfecting cloth. Pay attention to the keys that you frequently use, like the spacebar and enter.
  • Squeeze any extra liquids from the disinfecting cloth to avoid damaging the internal parts of your keyboard.
  • Remove the batteries from your mouse and use another disinfecting cloth to clean it. If you are using a laptop, wipe the touchpad with the disinfecting cloth but be sure that you remove any excess water from it.
  • When cleaning your monitor, use a microfiber cloth dipped in a cleaning solution. Wring it of excess water before wiping the monitor. Rinse the cloth using clean water and squeeze out any extra water on the cloth. Wipe your monitor once more and allow it to dry.

Our desks and computer are constantly exposed to dust, dirt, and even germs that can compromise our health. The best way to keep any health issues at bay is to give your workspace a good cleaning.
